Meet Blue, Ferrette House’s Founding Director
Brittney “Blue” Ferrette Washington is a visionary artist, cultural organizer, and the creative force behind Ferrette House and FH Productions. A seventh-generation Gullah Geechee descendant by way of Orangeburg, SC, Blue brings a deep-rooted commitment to preserving and amplifying cultural narratives. Her work spans multiple mediums, including filmmaking, photography, and illustration, with a focus on documenting histories and stories that explore themes of liberation, resilience, and identity.
“My work is for Liberation with a focus on supporting Black & femme self-determination and sovereignty over our image, voice, and culture.”
Blue’s career is defined by her ability to create spaces where art meets activism. As a filmmaker, she produces cinematic documentaries and narrative films that center marginalized voices and untold histories. Her photography captures intimate moments of beauty and vulnerability, often set in natural and home environments that reflect the essence of her subjects. In illustration, Blue crafts vivid visual narratives, from graphic novels to educational media, designed to ignite social consciousness.
Her work has garnered recognition across artistic and academic spaces. She has been a visiting artist at the Gibbes Museum of Art and a Program Coordinator for Public Programming at the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture. Blue’s passion for storytelling is evident in every project, weaving together memory and imagination to create transformative experiences for her audiences.
Through FH Productions, Blue continues to amplify stories that matter, bridging generations and fostering connections across communities. She believes that storytelling is not only an art form but an act of courage, one that holds the power to heal, inspire, and transform.
